The Strategic Research and Analysis Division (SRAD) of the Department of Transport published the first Transport Research Insights - Considering Gender in Active Travel and Public Transport. The paper provides a brief outline of gender related considerations in active travel and public transport in Ireland. It summarises some of the issues and concepts surrounding gender and transport particularly as they relate to mobility patterns and safety. The paper then discusses the concept of gender mainstreaming, which aims to incorporate gender-based analysis into all parts of policy. The paper concludes with a discussion of the Irish policy context, and some potentially useful policy interventions.
