The project aimed to provide a safe way for pedestrians to cross the river and enhance the town's attractiveness and the retrofit of boardwalk to existing town centre bridge to provide for active travel.

Challenge

Provide safer active travel access to town centre, preserving the historical and architectural features of the existing bridge, which is a protected structure.

Solution

Incorporating some historical artefacts into the boardwalk, such as an old bridge plaque and a War of Independence monument. Provided enhanced active travel provision, including shared surface on dredge deck.
