Building on ongoing efforts throughout the transport sector, there is an urgent need to accelerate implementation to achieve the goals set out in the National Sustainable Mobility Policy (SMP). The policy sets out to reduce distances driven by fossil-fuelled cars and to increase the amount of daily active travel and public transport by at least 500,000 by 2030.
With these needs in mind, we are proud to introduce the Sustainable Mobility Academy, a platform dedicated to knowledge exchange, effective communication, collaboration, and progress monitoring among sustainable mobility practitioners across Ireland. The platform is designed to support local authorities and other public and private sector stakeholders to exchange best practices and insights on sustainable mobility initiatives.
The Sustainable Mobility Academy strives to drive positive change throughout Ireland's transportation landscape. The platform aims to empower members with the necessary skills and knowledge to successfully implement smart and sustainable mobility projects.
Community Members can showcase their achievements, learn from one another, and contribute to the collective advancement of sustainable mobility in our country.
Through the Sustainable Mobility Academy, we aim to do two things.
To foster collaboration and knowledge exchange by using the platform as a gathering place for stakeholders. This will help avoid reinventing the wheel, facilitate the replication of successful projects, and enable learning from both successes and failures. By bringing together diverse perspectives and expertise, we will work towards creating a sustainable future for transport in Ireland.
To promote environmentally friendly transport options, reduce carbon emissions, and enhance the accessibility and efficiency of our mobility systems by providing innovative solutions for a seamless and sustainable transportation ecosystem, by harnessing the power of technology and collaboration. This collaborative effort aims to leverage the power of digital technologies, data-driven insights, and sustainable practices to address the mobility challenges faced in Ireland.
